Random Goober thoughts

Tuesday, July 27th: Pretty sure I realized today that I only put postage for a post card IN Europe, not out to the USA. I was so disappointed, I kept thinking about it. Dang it! IT made me want to cry, because both cards were so perfect and they cost a euro each! One of them was my marriage congrats/wishes to Amy. Too late now. She goes through the temple today and gets married Friday.

Well, we went to Lübeck. The old churches and buildings were cool. One - St. Mariens, was where Bach was when he somethin somethin the huge organ somethin Mormons somethin Tabernacle Choir somethin (I didn't catch a lot). There was a bell they had left as it was after it fell from bombing in WWII. Whoa. It was all bent up and crazy. The organ was HUGE! I wanted pics of both, but my camera died for a while again, and I had to pay the euro to take pictures anyway because I had already taken one. We got lost from the group with one of the Intn'l Center people, so she helped us get to the other places until the others caught up since we couldn't locate them. I finally met Liz's hubby. Stewart (who is three) got to be my friend and he kept holding my hand. Liz has told me before that I remind her of her sister, and she asked him if I reminded him of Emily, and he said yes. Liz pays him 25 cents every time he talks to people, because he's going through a shy stage. So then I told Ryan, Chad, and Kyle that (cool dudes), and Ryan gave him a coin and made him say "Thank you" louder. Poor kid.

I wanted to go in some girl clothing stores, so Kyle went in with me. We saw one of those spray-painter dudes. There was an old hospital with a cool chapel and spiral staircase. Now a part is fenced off and it is a retirement home! No way! The old dude who works in there yelled at me for being too loud while I was practicing my limp, fishy handshake with Kyle.

For lunch I had Johannesbeeren juice, stuffed turkey (I swear it had lemon pepper), pea pods, and thick noodle thingies, the first real meal, it felt like. Mmmm. The best was dessert: Rote Grütze. Mom, please learn to make this! Then we went to this old museum that used to be someone's house when Etruscan stuff was popular. Wow. It had big staircases (double) and an open 2nd level (a square in the middle looking down to the first floor), and cool mouldings and paintings and nooks and chairs and racey statues for that time, etc. Lübeck is famous for its marzipan, so I got some. It tastes like cookie dough from home!

I wanted a döner so badly, or some food because I knew that I would be hungry at my host family's again, but we didn't have time. When I got back, I ate the stew Liz gave me, yogurt with strawberries, cheese and bread, and a large glass of . . . whoa, what's this? someone bought juice! Yay!

Jan called me during the trip on Ulli's cell phone, and the room is fine and only 72 euros! I got a hold of Mom and told her about the postcards. She's still looking for a shirt to wear to the wedding. Strange. Matt's in Atlanta. There are three spiders in my room, but they aren't sturdy, dark ones, but light, skinny ones.
