Random Goober thoughts

For my art history class, we write essays on this book that is way over my head. I always have to read the parts over and over! Here is an example sentence:

"If a compelling intuition of the wholeness of the work emerges as one experiences the flux of various and at times sharply distinct part-views or aspects, this intuition canb e all thes tronger if it sustains itself through-and is amplified by-the experience of a part or aspect that affects one so intensely that it momentarily completely holds one's attention."

Chew on that one for a while.

Ugh...

I feel sorry for you, not only do you have to read that drivel, but you need to understand it enough to write about it.

Good luck, god knows I would need it!!!

What the ..? Ow, my brain hurts. Maybe it means if the validity of an underlying theme is strong, it will shine through and be further strengthened by the rest of the work, and in essence completely absorbs all your concious thought in the realization of the validity of that theme.

So basically one begins to understand that a piece of artwork is greater than the sum of its parts(even if those parts don't seem to go together), and that if the piece of art is as a whole compelling, it will keep people's attention? Does that sound close?

I feel your pain, at least you've completed at least one!

I think rather than that, it says that while you're getting a feel for the artwork(compelling intuition of the wholeness, my ass), it can be made stronger by any part that completely grabs you for a minute. Please study this example.
